MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Morgan County man charged with attempted murder in connection to a police chase and standoff with deputies was in court Wednesday morning.

James Huber is in jail on attempted murder and meth manufacturing charges. Huber's attorney asked the judge to lower his bond at the hearing. The judge denied the motion.

In January, Somerville Police said Huber led officers on a chase after a six-hour standoff. The chase happened weeks after someone found Huber's wife, Melissa, dead at their home in Somerville. The couple's daughter, Kristina, is charged with her mother's murder.

A friend of Huber's was at the hearing and explained his concern for him.

"He's still so distraught about his wife. They were really a close pair; she was a wonderful person," said Duke Gerhardt. "I really loved her and she was a lot of fun to be with. They were a great team."

James Huber's case will now go to a grand jury, which will decide whether to indict him on all or some of the charges he faces.
