ROGERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital after he crashed into a propane tank in Lauderdale County Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. at Clark Gas Company on Highway 72.

Authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the road, came across the back of the property through the fence and then hit the tank.

Although officials were initially worried about a fuel leak after smelling fuel, it was determined the smell came from a smaller tank that was being worked on near the crash site. No fuel leaked from the damaged tank.

The driver reportedly broke both legs but was conscious at the scene. There were no passengers in his vehicle.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
