Last week, Huntsville Fire & Rescue started a new Firefighter class. The cadets are expected to graduate near the end of August 2014. The class consists of 24 recruits for Huntsville Fire and 2 for Huntsville International Airport. You may have seen the recent cell phone footage from Houston that went viral of firefighters rescuing a constructions worker. This is the type of situation firefighters train for and don't often enough get the credit for. Trained officers will teach cadets a variety of skills necessary to be firefighters in today's world. They will learn about hazardous materials, the latest rescue and firefighting techniques, and will be nationally registered, emergency medical technicians. To those of you that are retiring, we give you our most sincere thanks. To those that will soon be taking over the reins, may we always give you the respect you deserve. May you continue the challenge of training yourselves to continue the first-rate service Huntsville Fire & Rescue provide to our communities. I'm Vanessa Oubre. That's "My Take" what's yours?
