NAPLES, FL (WAFF) -

Hello, dolly! A Florida auction for an antique doll set collectors' tongues wagging and set a new world record Saturday.

Auction house Theriault's reported that the sale of a French art character doll by sculptor Albert Marque realized $300,000 at auction, breaking the previous world record.

The doll was inscribed as #27 of the 100 models known to have ever been made. It is believed to date back to 1916. It was presented to auction from the stock of a former Swiss doll museum.

"The Albert Marque bebe has long been considered the most coveted doll in the world by collectors," said Theriault's President Stuart Holbrook.

At auction in Naples FL, the doll was considered the prize item and the focus of frenzied bidding both in-house and over the phone.

The identity of the winning bidder was not released.
