TUCSON, AZ -

Trent Gilbert led a 17-hit offensive attack, and Cody Hamlinpitched into the ninth inning to lead the University of Arizona baseball teamto an upset victory, 11-2, over seventh-ranked Oregon State to even up thethree-game Pac-12 series on Saturday at Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona (12-17, 2-6) claimed an early lead and never looked back, providingplenty of run support for Hamlin, who turned away the Beavers on severaloccasions and narrowly missed on his bid for a complete game.

Hamlin (W, 4-2) allowed just two runs and racked up a career-high eightstrikeouts without a walk in 8.2 innings pitched. He picked up a pair of quickouts in the ninth, but consecutive doubles pushed across the final run andprompted the Wildcats to make their only pitching change of the game. BobbyDalbec finished off the impressive victory to snap a streak of six-consecutivevictories in Tucson for the Beavers.

Gilbert ignited the offense with a two-run double in the first inning to drivein Joseph Maggi and Kevin Newman, who each collected one-out singles. It wasthe first of two extra base in the game for Gilbert, who finished 3-for-5 withthree runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.

The Wildcats added to their lead with a four-run third inning against OregonState starter Andrew Moore. Newman, who was one three players with three hitsin the lineup, singled and scored on Gilbert's triple to the 405-foot sign inleft-centerfield.

Later in the inning, Dalbec, Riley Moore and Scott Kingery added two-out basehits to drive in runs, and the Wildcats were comfortably in front 6-0.

That was plenty of support for Hamlin, who was in control most of the waydespite allowing the Beavers to put a runner on base in all nine innings. However, he worked out of his biggest jam with minimal damage in the sixthinning.

Oregon State (20-6, 5-3) loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but scoredjust once on Logan Ice's sacrifice fly out. Otherwise Hamlin coaxed a soft flyout and struck out Andy Peterson to send Arizona to the dugout with a 6-1 lead.

The Wildcats added a lone insurance run in the seventh and then plated fourmore runs to take a commanding 11-2 lead to the final inning.

Moore (L, 2-2) lasted just three innings and was charged with six runs on 10hits and a walk. He struck out two before turning the game over tolefty-reliever Zack Reser.

Reser quieted Arizona's bats with 2.2 scoreless innings, but five additionalrelievers combined to give up five runs over 2.1 innings.

Arizona's lineup included six starters with multiple hit games, highlighted bythe top four in the lineup. Kingery and Maggi each had two hits at the top ofthe order ahead of Newman and Gilbert, who each had three hits. Gibbons added a3-for-4 game with two runs scored out of the No. 7 spot, and Moore collectedtwo hits and drove a pair of runs batting in the No. 9 position.

The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for theWildcats, who had dropped six consecutive Pac-12 Conference games.

The rubber game of the series is set for Sunday at noon (MST). The game will betelevised live on the Pac-12 Networks and broadcast locally on 1290 AM inTucson by the Arizona IMG Sports Network.
