DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

People are stepping up to help a family that lost two children in a deadly fire that ripped through a Decatur apartment on Thursday. The Red Cross had been assisting since Thursday morning, but others in the community began to step up as well.

Clothes and shoes were donated Saturday, as well as money to help the family pick up the pieces. As you can imagine, family members were still finding the whole thing hard to believe.

Marlena and Dexter Miland both lost their lives in the fire. The children's grandmother was a pillar of support for the family, but she said they do need help, and not just with donations.

"Just keep praying, because they all need your prayers," said Barbara Crayton, the children's grandmother.

A fundraiser is was held Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Pentecostal Jubilee Hours of Prayer in Decatur. Monetary donations were accepted to help the Miland family with funeral arrangements and other costs.

If you couldn't make it to the fundraiser, but still wish to donate, you can contact Curtis Taylor at (256)-345-3865
