GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Travis Cone of the Piedmont Park Fire Department said they worked with Duncan Chapel Fire Department to contain a fire in an abandoned building near Tower Road on Paris Mountain on Thursday night.

Cone said the building was destroyed and two acres around the building were burned.

Greenville County dispatchers said an abandoned U.S. Forestry Building is in the area.

Witnesses reported traffic being stopped by deputies on State Park Road on top of the mountain while firefighters controlled the fire.

Cone said at 10 p.m. that the fire was under control, but they were still working on a few hotspots. Asst. Chief Russell Watson with Duncan Chapel Fire District said crews were hitting the hot spots until nearly 1 a.m.

He said no one was injured and no neighboring homes were damaged in the fire.

A total of 17 personnel along with seven fire trucks and two bulldozers responded to the scene, Watson said. He said the bulldozers were used to clear the land to make a firebreak around the affected area.

Officials have not yet determined what sparked the blaze.
