BGSU baseball team adopts brothers battling brain cancer

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Bowling Green Baseball team has two new members, after brothers Braeden and Bronson Steiner – who are 10 and 8 years old respectively – signed national letters of intent Wednesday.

Both are fighting brain tumors, and became part of the team as part of a national effort called Friends of Jaclyn. The organization partners children battling brain tumors up with college teams.

"I met the team and I got my own locker and my own helmet," said Braeden.

The boys' mother says they loved meeting the team.

"They're going to be thrilled, they're going to be talking about it for days, weeks," said Jodie Steiner.

The man who founded the organization says that is what it's all about.

"There is no chemotherapy, there is no radiation and there's no clinical trial more powerful than love support and friendship," said Friends of Jaclyn founder Denis Murphy. "Once they come on they forget about the beast, and to forget about cancer for an hour or two is priceless."

The boys will become honorary members of the team, visiting them in the locker room and even sitting on the bench during games.
