GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - An attempted murder suspect has been taken into custody just days after a shooting in Georgetown that sent one man to the hospital.
Georgetown Police investigators and agents with the Drug Enforcement Unit arrested 23-year-old Kwamane Edward Smith at a motel on Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach.
Smith was escorted back to the Georgetown County Detention Center to face attempted murder and kidnapping charges in connection to a shooting on Park Street just after midnight on March 23.
Police believe the shooting was drug related. The male victim in that shooting underwent surgery after being shot in the lower abdomen and is in stable condition, according to a post on the Georgetown Police Department's Facebook page.
Smith is expected to have a bond hearing on Thursday.
Mark Ellis has been charged with attempted murder, first degree burglary, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for his involvement in the shooting. He is also charged with failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension for a separate incident.
Christopher Brown and Mary Alice Shaluly were arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive in connection with the Smith case. Brown was also charged with trafficking in heroin.
