Man allegedly uses banking app to steal money from roommate

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

An Athens man faces theft charges after police said he stole several thousand dollars out of a former roommate's bank account using a smartphone app.

Investigators said Wesley Pierre Johnson was using the roommate's cell phone and noticed it was still logged in to a mobile banking app. They said Johnson took the opportunity to transfer money from that account to his own using the app.

Police said Johnson later withdrew the stolen money from his own account.

Johnson was charged with one felony count of first-degree theft and placed in the Limestone County Jail.
