HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A woman was taken to the hospital Monday morning after a train struck her car in Huntsville.

The wreck happened around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Pratt Avenue and Meridian Street.

According to police, the driver was traveling westbound on Pratt Avenue and the train was traveling northbound. Authorities said the car involved failed to yield to the train and was struck on the passenger's side rear door. 

The driver was taken to the hospital by HEMSI. The extent of her injuries are unknown.

Several roads in the area were closed for more than an hour while emergency crews responded to the wreck. 

Police said the wreck is under investigation.
