HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Spring Break has arrived across the Tennessee Valley, and with it the annual trepidation of parents wondering how to fill the time.

If you can't take a long road trip and are in need of some ‘staycation' ideas, here are some low-cost and free attractions that can help you and your kids spend Spring Break together.

Skate Odyssey (Huntsville): Your child can spend the whole of Spring Break skating up a storm. The rink is offering a whole week's admission – including lunch – for $50 or $10 per day. Each day's skating runs from noon to 6 p.m. More info

Huntsville Museum of Art: It's Youth Art Month, and the museum's exhibition celebrates youth artwork by featuring over 200 works of K-12 students. Exhibit included with the cost of admission. More info

Carnegie Visual Arts Center (Decatur): The Watercolor Society of Alabama's exhibit at the Carnegie features 75 paintings by premier artists from across the country. Admission to the Carnegie is free, with donations accepted. More info

Tennessee Valley Museum of Art: Casting is beginning on the CenterStage production of "Forever Plaid.' Auditions are for male singers aged 16-35; the show will eventually be performed in early June. More info

Christmas Charities Year-Round (Huntsville): The non-profit organization is expanding with a new ‘Rag Tag' storage facility. Instead of throwing away old sheets, towels, shirts and other items, bag them up, tag them ‘Rags' and bring them to the opening ceremony on Friday. This is a good chance to get some spring cleaning done during Spring Break! More info

Sparkman High School Band Car Show: Free for spectators or a $20 fee to enter a car, the car show includes door prizes, silent auction and live entertainment from the band! More info

This is just a selection of the many exhibits, showcases and activities going on this week. These and many more in the weeks and months ahead can be found on the WAFF Events page. You can even submit your own community event there.
