HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

An effort to get 1,000 women moving for their health kicked off Saturday.

It all went down on the campus of Alabama A&M University. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Urban Affairs Unit rallied women together to encourage them to improve their health.

It's part of a two month, statewide effort to challenge 1,000 women to know their personal health numbers, like on top of putting better things on their plate.

"We want them to change the way they eat, reading labels, decreasing the fatty foods and increase exercise and activity in their lives," said Celvia Stovall of the Alabama Cooperative Extension.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death among women in Alabama and across America according to the American Heart Association.
