MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County animal control officer will not be fired, after he was seen carrying a dead dog around in his vehicle.

County Commission Chairman James Hutcheson said disciplinary action has been taken against Canine Officer Kevin Hooks. Due to personnel reasons, the chairman said he cannot go into detail about what that action is.

The incident was seen on Highway 431 from Albertville to Boaz. A woman took a snapshot of the deceased dog in the back of the truck and posted the image to social media.

Hooks said he chose not to put the body in the truck's cage because three live dogs were already in the space and he did not want the dogs in contact with the body.
