MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

Lawmakers honored a Huntsville police officer Thursday at the State Capitol.

Senator Arthur Orr tweeted a picture with Officer Byron Thompson from Montgomery. The senator and other lawmakers presented Thompson with the Medal of Honor.

Thompson pulled a man out of a burning truck in July, with the aid of a citizen. The driver was stuck in an eight-car pileup at the intersection of Airport Road and Memorial Parkway.

Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris said Thompson showed extreme bravery and nominated Thompson for the honor.
