SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

A Scottsboro man convicted of killing his girlfriend, robbery, and drug possession is getting a break from a judge – but not the one he hoped for.

The sentence for Jonathan Nicholson was reduced from 15 years to three Wednesday. Nicholson was seeking probation.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced in February for the accidental shooting death of 17-year-old Tessa Groves and two other incidents.

Nicholson was ordered to attend drug counseling and to finish his GED.
