A Tuscaloosa County couple is determine to figure out who abused their dog.
Anthony and Cortney Herren believe someone brutally abused their three-year-old dog and they want answers. They say Blue disappeared a week ago and returned malnourished, blind in one eye with a chopped off tail and broken bones.
"He was all skin and bones and had marks all over him," Anthony Herren, Blue's owner said. "I don't know if they fought him or was planning on it."
The dog's owners believe Blue was brutally abused by someone.
"I was mainly upset. But I think I was mainly mad than I was wanting to cry," Anthony Herren said. "I'd hate to see any animal like that period. I don't see how someone could do it."
"To know somebody is out there that would do something like that to a dog. They would do it to a human and that's what worries me," Cortney Herren said.
The Herrens haven't lived in their Coaling neighborhood long, so they don't have a clue who would want to hurt their dog. Coaling Police are aware of the abuse but so far it remains a mystery of how Blue ended up like this.
"There's a lot of pitbulls going missing now. I don't know what it is. Is it somebody out there who can't stand the breed? I don't know," Anthony Herren said.
"We do want to push charges as far as they will go," Cortney said. "Honestly we just want to know why?"
Wednesday, doctors will remove the rest of Blue's tail and put his leg in a splint. Unfortunately, they will be removing Blue's left eye because his cornea is split.
A fund has been set up for Blue's medical bills at Bryant Vet. Family and friends have also set up this website to donate: http://www.gofundme.com/7jttk4.
