FRANKLIN, TN (WSMV) -

A Middle Tennessee teacher is out of the classroom amid an investigation into possible possession of child pornography. The teacher is not charged, but police are taking the case very seriously.

Franklin police say they received a tip regarding a teacher at Battle Ground Academy, so investigators conducted a search warrant at the teacher's house and obtained the teacher's work computer.

"The tip that started this investigation had enough focus to cause some concern and for us to look a little closer," said Franklin police spokesman Sgt. Charles Warner.

The Secret Service and Department of Homeland Security are assisting in the investigation to determine if anything illegal took place.

In a statement sent to BGA families Monday, the interim head of school, Randy Tucker, said:

"We have been assured that no BGA students were impacted and that nothing being investigated occurred on either of our campuses. The safety of BGA students, faculty, staff and community is paramount and, to that end, the school will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities conducting the investigation. At this point, this is all we know and the school cannot comment any further on personnel issues."

School officials say the teacher will remain on administrative leave during the course of the investigation.
