Carly's Law passes committee, headed to House

CBD oil has been reported to reduce seizures in children. CBD oil has been reported to reduce seizures in children.
MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

A plan to make a marijuana by-product legal in Alabama for medical purposes passed in the House Technology and Research Committee Tuesday afternoon.

Carly's Law would allow doctors to use a substance derived from marijuana to treat patients. The Senate approved the bill on March 11.

Supporters of the bill said the CBD oil has one purpose, and that is to help children with a rare genetic disorder. The oil has been reported to reduce seizures in children and would only be available with a prescription.

The bill does not legalize the oil, but gives caretakers a justifiable defense if charged with drug possession over the oil.

The bill will now go to the House floor for a vote.
