LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A man has been charged with two counts of capital murder after he was brought in by Lauderdale County law enforcement following a chase.

Mark Edwin Montgomery was charged in the deaths of 41-year-old Joanna Strickland Butler and 57-year-old Clo Ann Taylor Stoner.

The double homicide investigation centered around a home on County Road 10.

A call came in around 2 p.m. of two bodies found inside the home. Butler and Stoner died of apparent gunshot wounds. A small dog was also found shot dead inside the home.

The suspect was believed to have fled the scene in one of the victim's cars. The car and driver were soon located and the chase began. It ended around 3:30 p.m. when Montgomery was taken into custody approximately 100 yards from the murder scene.

Late Monday evening, Montgomery was formally charged with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of Strickland and Stoner.

"Right now, we're not exactly sure, but we believe that it's possibly a domestic-type situation," said Travis Clemmons of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.

Clemmons said they believe Montgomery acted alone. It is not clear if the victims or Montgomery were related.
