VDOT mobilizes ahead of more wintry weather

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VDOT crews are out in force ahead of another round of wintry weather. VDOT officials and AAA representatives are warning about possible black ice during your morning commute.

"We are urging everyone if you have to go out," said Tammy Gobert with AAA. "Please just take your time."

We found several cars seemingly unfazed by the slick roads in Short Pump. It was a similar story on 288 in Chesterfield.

"It's so important not to be over confident in weather like this," said Gobert. "Being over confident can be very dangerous."

Road crews aren't taking any chances. They are stocking up on salt and sand. We found trucks lining up to begin treating roads once the sleet transitions to snow.

"If you can delay your morning commute or even just stay home," said Gobert. "We highly advise that you do that."

Crews are working 12 hour rotating shifts throughout the storm.
