Driver collides with oncoming train in Richwood

RICHMOND, KY (FOX19) -

At approximately 1:15 p.m., a vehicle v. train collision in the 11,000 block of Old Lexington Pike in Richwood, Kentucky sent the driver of the car to the hospital with reportedly non life-threatening injuries.

Melissa Hemingway, 44, had managed to drive her car approximately ½ mile southbound on the tracks before colliding with an oncoming northbound Norfolk Southern train.

The train, estimated to be traveling at 25 mph, went into full emergency brake mode but still pushed the car back 215 yards. 

Hemingway was transported to University Medical Center by Walton E.M.S.

Boone County police are investigating the collision.
