Gusman, Williams, Rouse among winners in Orleans run-off elections

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -- Orleans Parish voters took to the polls during Saturday's run-off elections to fill high-profile positions and vote on important propositions. Incumbent Marlin Gusman defeated Charles Foti in the race for Orleans Parish Sheriff. Also claiming victory Saturday night were Jason Williams, who defeated Cynthia Hedge-Morrell for the Councilmember at Large - Division II seat. In the closest race of the night, Jeffrey Rouse defeated Dwight McKenna 51% - 49% to win the Orleans Parish Coroner's race. Rouse issued the following statement on his victory:

If I look a little stunned it is because I am. I am on a lot of adrenaline so bear with me as I try to roll through this. Let me thank everyone who helped what was a difficult task, to take someone with no name recognition and parlay that into a citywide win. I knew nothing about how to do this, but I learned quickly you need a team to make this happen. Thank you to that infrastructure, to everyone who got up early and hustled, who worked the phones and the streets, to the endorsements, to Mayor Mitch Landrieu. I relied on good people.

Nadine Ramsey garnered 59% of the vote to win the Councilmember District C race. Jackie Clarkson, who received 41% of the vote released the following statement:

We have all won. We fought the good fight, a team that brought back the greatest city inAmerica. We go out in a blaze of glory, trying to be part of the team one more time. I'm proud of not only the 24 years I have served and the record we have set, but I am very, very proud to have always answered the call for the City. I give the people who have always helped me over these 24 years a lot of gratitude, as well as my husband Buzz, my generations of family and my children.
