Lions win 5th straight in sweep of CBU

Kyle Conkle pitched six strong innings and Jake Smith scored twice and drove in two runs to lead the University of North Alabama to a 7-1 win over Christian Brothers, completing a three-game sweep of the Buccaneers.

The Lions, winners of five straight, improve to 12-15 overall and 5-10 in the Gulf South Conference.

UNA got a run in the second inning, then added two in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 5-0 lead. CBU got its only run in the bottom of the fifth and the Lions added two insurance runs in the eighth.   UNA out-hit CBU 12 to seven.

Conkle (1-2) got the win for UNA, allowing just one run on five hits over six innings. Austin Carpenter pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Jacob Westerhouse pitched a scoreless ninth.

Smith went three-for-five with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Tyler Hall and Josh Carpenter added two hits each.

North Alabama hosts Selma Tuesday in a single game at Mike Lane Field.
