15th ranked Lions dominate in their series with CBU

The University of North Alabama softball team completed a three-game sweep over Christian Brothers on Saturday with a 14-2 five-inning victory in the series finale. Chloe Wolf went 3-for-3 with three RBI as UNA improved to 25-6 on the season with a 12-3 mark in Gulf South Conference play.

The Lions, ranked No. 15 in the latest NFCA rankings, recorded two wins over CBU on Friday before completing the sweep and wrapping up their fifth GSC series victory of the season. UNA outscored the Lady Bucs 54-4 in the three games.

On Saturday, North Alabama used offensive outbursts in the top of the third and fifth innings to evoke the mercy rule. A sacrifice fly by Libby Olinger gave UNA its first run, scoring Ashley Bonner from third base. Later in the third, Brittany Gillison connected on a three-run home run to center field. The blast was the 10th of the series for the Lions against CBU.

Wolf wrapped up the scoring in the top of the third with an RBI-single to score Harlie Barkley and give UNA a 5-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the seventh, when the Lions plated nine runs to put the game out of reach. UNA took advantage of three CBU errors in the frame, scoring eight unearned runs on just five hits. Wolf had two hits in the inning, including a two-run single that scored Gillison and Chelsea Showers.

For the game, Bonner also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Olinger and Showers added two hits each.

On the mound, Bree Blevins went the distance to improve to 12-3 on the year. She struck out four and took a shutout into the bottom of the fifth before the Bucs plated two runs on an RBI-single by Lauren Provence.

UNA will play two games at Stillman on March 19 before returning to GSC play the following weekend to host three games against Union.
