A former inmate at Bibb County Correctional Facility has filed a federal lawsuit accusing a corrections officer of repeated sexual abuse.
The lawsuit states the abuse began in 2012. According to the lawsuit, DNA evidence obtained linked a specific guard to the assaults.
The inmate claims the guard provided contraband for the inmate including a cell phone, drugs and food. According to the lawsuit, the corrections officer forced inmate to sell the contraband for the benefit of the guard.
The inmate says he reported the abuse to prison officials, but with "deliberate indifference" the complaints and pleas for help went unanswered.
The inmate also accuses other corrections officers of assisting in the "systematic rape".
The inmate is no longer housed at Bibb County Correctional Facility.
The Alabama Department of Corrections says they do comment on pending litigation.
The lawsuit requests a jury trial. A trial date has not been set.
