LEIGHTON, AL (WAFF) -

The woman who allegedly told Colbert County authorities she cut her boyfriend's throat has been formally charged with assault.

Deputies were called to a home on the 5600 block of Old Highway 20 near Leighton on March 6. Dispatchers said they received a call from Charlotte Pittman saying she had cut her boyfriend's throat during an argument.

Investigators found Robert Hand on the front porch of the property with stab wounds to the neck. They then found a bloodied 8" knife in the home, lying beside a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Hand was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment of his injuries. In a follow-up interview with investigators Wednesday, Hand said the couple had argued over the care of Pittman's dog when she pushed him onto a bed and stabbed him twice in the neck.

Charlotte Pittman is currently in the Lauderdale County Jail on drug charges, but second-degree assault charges were added Thursday.

Pittman's bond is set at $25,000.
