Auburn fires Tony Barbee after loss to South Carolina

It was a 4 year tenure, that in the end, is easy to forget. Auburn firing coach Tony Barbee after the Tiers loss to SOuth Carolina 74-56 in the opening game of the SEC Tournament. Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs informed Barbee of the decison at the team hotel.

In a statement, Jacobs stated, "After careful evaluation of the last four years, I feel this is best for the program," Jacobs said.

"I believe we should compete for championships in men's basketball. It's time for somebody else to have a turn. We need to find somebody to come in here and take what we have here now and put some more in and compete for SEC titles."

"We made an incredible investment in basketball, and certainly appreciate those players, particularly the seniors, who kept fighting,".

Tony Barbee finished his Auburn coaching career with a 48-75 record overall and a 18-50 in conference play. He never won a SEC Tournament game as a Head Coach.
