Newcomer to Kitchen Cops' low performers list

COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Many times, restaurants that score low with the health department have a history of poor scores. That's not the case for Claunch Café at Spring Park in Tuscumbia. They scored an 82 with the Colbert County Health Department during their last inspection. A check of their previous inspection scores shows it was an aberration.

The health department came to Claunch Cafe three times in 2013, and in those inspections, they scored 96, 95, and 98. Manager Chris Claunch said this time a few loose ends added up, and he takes the blame for the lower score. Claunch said he and his staff are ready replace the 82 on wall with a higher score.

"We always strive to do all the little things right, you know. Cleaning, keeping food up to temperatures, all those little things that go into a restaurant, we strive to do those things perfect. For us, we take a lot of pride in keeping a high health score. Our customers like to have a high health score. It's really big. We take a lot of pride in keeping it up, and we're looking forward to the next time," Claunch said.

The health inspector reported one critical violation for some hot holding foods held below the required minimum hot-holding temperature.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
