DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

The Decatur City Council plans to put the Sweetwater development project on the calendar for a public hearing.

That will happen on March 17 when the council will also vote on the project.

Talks with developers about Sweetwater picked up again last week after the deal died last fall. The proposal then was for a $1.5 billion complex with restaurants, shops, a hotel and several major anchor stores.

The development would have been on the Limestone County side of Decatur, a 125-acre plot at the corner of Alabama 20 and Interstate 65.

On March 6, the council held a special meeting away from council chambers, going into executive session without the public or media. They cited the Alabama Trade Secrets Act as justification for the meeting.
