Man shot and killed while trying to sell his car, police say

(WMC-TV) – Memphis police are searching for those responsible for the shooting death of a 37-year-old man who was trying to sell his car, which the suspects stole after the shooting.

The shooting and robbery happened around 11 Sunday night at the Sycamore Lake Apartments.

Police say several men showed up to look at the victim's car at the apartment, where they shot the victim several times and stole the car.

"It appears he was trying to sell his vehicle. He had some individuals who were looking at the vehicle," said Major Jeff Tow with MPD. "The vehicle is now gone and our witnesses have all said they saw the vehicle leave at a high rate of speed. That's really all we've got."

The victim's brother-in-law told Action News 5 the stolen vehicle is a black, 2006 Ford Mustang.

He also said the victim is a man in his mid-30s, had five sisters, and was his parents' only son.

The car was spotted by an MPD officer in the area of North Trezevant Street and Corning Avenue around 9:30 Monday morning. The officer tried to stop the car, which is when a suspect fled the car on foot.
