Thieves steal $700 worth of gym equipment from BG school

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

BowlingGreen Police need help tracking down whoever stole gym equipment from localchildren.

Basketballs,yoga mats and about $700 worth of equipment has been stolen from the Wood LaneSchool's gym. And it couldn't have come at a worse time. The Special Olympics,funded almost entirely by donations, are going to be held at the gym in twoweeks.

Staffmembers noticed something was wrong in February, but just reported the theft.Their gym is actually located inside the Bowling Green Community Center. It'snormally locked, but they rent the gym out to several organizations.

NowWood Lane officials are trying to figure out who would steal from them.

"Iwas pretty disappointed and actually quite sad," said Superintendent MelanieStretchberry. "While the monetary value of this equipment is not extreme, Imean, who does that?"

Nowthey will have to spend additional money to buy new equipment. They hope tohave everything running smoothly before the Special Olympics begin on March 21.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
