DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The man charged with shooting two Fred's employees in Rainsville pleaded guilty on Friday.

Kelly Jack Mayo was charged with two counts of attempted murder for shooting 25-year-old Josh Nance and 39-year-old Matthew Whitt. Mayo is accused of shooting both men in the back, paralyzing Nance.

Mayo was arrested in Cedartown, Georgia. Police said he was trying to take a Fred's employee hostage.

Both of Mayo's victims approved the plea agreement made Friday.

Mayo was originally scheduled for trial beginning on Monday. He will serve 25 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay court costs and restitution to the two victims. Authorities said Mayo will likely be transferred to Georgia to face additional charges there.

"We are glad to bring this case to a conclusion after all these months. These victims have been very patient during this whole process. Both young men will have to endure the pain of this violent act for years to come. I hope they continue to improve and wish them and their families all the best. This has been a terrible tragedy for all three families. I appreciate the job that everyone involved in this case did," said Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
