School shooter, family now only defendants in civil suit

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Madison County judge dismissed twoeducators from a civil lawsuit filed after a school shooting.

The family of Todd Brown filed the lawsuitagainst the Madison City School Board, the superintendent, the former principalof Discovery Middle School, Hammad Memon and his parents after the shooting atthe school. The Memons are now the only defendants remaining in the suit.

Brown's family made it clear in the motion todismiss that they want to move forward with their claims against the Memons.Hammad Memon shot and killed Todd Brown in February 2010. It happened in ahallway at Discovery Middle School during a class change.

Hammad pleaded guilty to murder and iscurrently serving a 30-year prison sentence. His mother, Safia, pleaded guiltyto attempted hindering prosecution for trying to get Hammad out of the countrybefore trial. Iqbal Memon, Hammad's father, is charged with hinderingprosecution for the same incident, but has not gone to trial.

A trial date for the civil suit has not beenset.
