MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

Thursday, the Alabama State Senate approved $100 million to make a major digital switch.

Republican Senator Gerald Dial sponsored the bill, which would allow the state to borrow up to $100 million through bond sales to give schools money for laptops, tablets and electronic versions of textbooks.

School systems that have already converted to digital materials, such as Huntsville City Schools, could apply for reimbursement.

The bill now goes to the House, where a similar bill died last year.
