LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County man is accused of running his family business without state licenses.

68-year-old Dan Beavers has been charged with three counts of not having a contractor's license. Beavers is out on bond after turning himself in and being taken into custody Thursday morning.

Beavers owns Beavers Heating and Cooling. The family-run business is located just north of Killen, off Highway 64 and is still in operation.

The state's Board of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors, who has brought the allegations against Beavers, could not give many details about the case because it is still active. However, they said in a statement:

Mr. Dan Beavers' Senior HVAC certification with the board was revoked in October 2007. There are allegations Mr. Beavers has been working without proper certification, which is a Class-A misdemeanor in the State of Alabama. Until the case is resolved against Mr. Beavers, the board has no further comment.

If convicted, he could be fined up to $1,000 and one year in prison for each count.

Beavers was reached by phone Thursday, and said he had no comment on the allegations.

He currently serves as one of five members of the Lauderdale County School Board. School officials said they were shocked upon hearing of Beavers' arrest, saying it was the first time they had heard about it. They said they are looking into the allegations to determine what their next steps should be.
