HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski was asked to follow up on questions posed at Monday night's town hall meeting at the Richard Showers Center. Dr. Wardynski was named on the attendee list at that meeting, but did not appear.

When asked why he was absent from the meeting, Dr. Wardynski said he didn't show up because he couldn't talk about legal issues. He was then asked if he legally could not talk or if he didn't want to talk. He responded, "I won't."

The superintendent contested WAFF's role as a voice for the taxpayers. He said we were not, and that the reporter questioning him and WAFF as a whole are "just a company." As the conversation became more heated, Dr. Wardynski held a folder in front of him to block the camera and turned to leave.

To be fair, we were told Wardynski had a limited amount of time to answer questions, but as he was leaving, he never said he was pressed for time.

Huntsville City Schools has six days to file a response to an alternative re-zoning plan filed by the Department of Justice. Another motion was filed Tuesday in District Court.

The Huntsville Board of Education asked a judge for permission to write more than 50 pages in its response. The motion essentially explains to the judge why the district needs more pages to reply. The motion was approved.
