HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The federal budget released by PresidentObama Tuesday could have impacts for Tennessee Valley defense projects. The budget includes a $15 million increase in Justice Department funds for alab at Redstone Arsenal that analyzes bomb attacks.

Senator Richard Shelby helped break ground onthe Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center, TEDAC for short, in 2012. Atthe time, Shelby called TEDAC a $125 million facility that would help improvesafety for America.

The FBI currently uses the TEDAC facility atQuantico VA. The facility is filled with evidence from 100,000 bomb attacksthat have been analyzed over its ten years of operation. The Justice Departmentwants to expand that work to the Arsenal as part of an overall plan to preventfuture improvised explosive attacks on the US and abroad.

This increase is a small part of the overall0.7% increase in the department's budget. It faces tough opposition, as someRepublican leaders in Congress call this Obama's most irresponsible budgetproposal ever.
