HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

On Tuesday, Raytheon announced the expansion of their Huntsville facility.

When Raytheon first broke ground on their test facility in 2010, the company estimated they would bring in about 200 to 250 jobs over the next couple of years, and this latest expansion only highlights that.

The Raytheon facility in Huntsville produces and tests Standard Missile-3's and 6's. This latest expansion is a new test cell. That area will boost production and allow Raytheon to keep up with demand.

The expansion announcement happened shortly after noon on Tuesday. Raytheon said Huntsville is the right place for the facility to grow.

"Being close to our customers, having a great footprint, being integrated and supported from all levels of government encourages us to stay and grow," said company president Dr. Taylor Lawrence.

Dr. Lawrence said the company will grow even more in the future. He said he expects production will increase further as demand for missiles grows.
