Ashbrook High placed on lockdown after robbery

Posted: Updated:

Some parents picking up their children say they didn't learn about a lockdown at Gastonia's Ashbrook High until classes were dismissed.

"I had no clue. I'd been out all day, but I checked my house phone before coming here, "Lisa Wells said." There were no calls to my house or cell."

Wells has two children that attend Ashbrook and her daughter Rebecca recalls the announcement over the intercom.

"They just came on the intercom and said that we're going into to lockdown, and that we had to be quiet," she said.

Silence according to some students revealed another sound.

Hunter Sawyer was among those who heard the warnings.

"We heard sirens, "he said. About four police officers pulled up to the school. And they were patrolling the building and everything else."

Cops were on the Ashrook campus because of what happened at a Pizza Hut next door.

Lisa Wells says that she would like to have been in the conversation known sooner.

"Absolutely its our children's safety, and it's a parents responsibility first and foremost," she said." They should be locked down anytime there is a lockdown at the school."

A Gaston County school spokesperson said parents were notified through a reverse automated phone system.

Police are still looking for suspects in the Pizza Hut robbery case.
