A Blount County teacher accused of sending naked pictures to a student has agreed to a plea deal.

Crystal Clowdus has pleaded guilty to charges relating to allegations she sent nude pictures to a student. District Attorney Pamela Casey says Clowdus agreed to the deal shortly after her arrest Dec. 20 but they had to wait until a judge was assigned to the case to finalize the plea deal Monday.

She was sentenced to 10 years in jail but will only serve six months in prison, six months under house arrest and be under supervised probation for five years. Casey also says Clowdus must surrender her teachers license and register as a sex offender. She will essentially never teach in Alabama again.

Casey says the incident has given Susan Moore High School a black eye it doesn't deserve, saying it's a wonderful community.

A secondary part of this investigation involves the allegation that school officials waited a month before reporting Clowdus' misconduct. Casey says the ABI is still investigating this allegation.

"The principal was aware of a situation three weeks before the parent of the victim became aware. Fast forward, parent becomes aware of it, approaches the principal, principal indicates he wants to keep this in house, nothing occurs for several days," Casey said.
