NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

The Athens City Council and Limestone County Commission are holding a joint meeting to discuss an economic development project. The details of the project are unknown, but it is the first item on the meeting agenda. Afterward, the council and commission will adopt resolutions to approve bid packages valued at more than $2 million to complete Phase 2 of the Athens-Limestone Public Library project. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. Monday at the Clinton Street Annex.

The Decatur City Council is expected to make a decision about the Point Mallard Ice Rink Monday. The proposal would have the rink operate on a seasonal basis rather than year-round in an effort to save money.

Jackson County could move a step closer to adopting a vicious dog ordinance. The county commission wants to hear from you at its final public hearing on the issue Monday. For those who have dealt with vicious animals in the county, animal control currently advises them to take the matter to small-claims court. However, that may change if the ordinance passes, because the sheriff's office will be given greater authority to impound the dog.

The funeral of former state senator Tommy Ed Roberts is Monday. Roberts died Saturday at his home in Hartselle, aged 73. Roberts served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives and three terms in the state Senate.

Don't forget – Sunday, March 9 is the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. Clocks will "spring forward" that morning, meaning you will lose the 2 a.m. hour. Be sure to rest up well!
