College of Charleston ran its winning streak to eight games and won its third-straight series, defeating Marist, 7-3, on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (9-1) tallied 12 hits and two home runs in the win, while holding Marist (2-8) to just five hits.
CofC sophomore Taylor Clarke (2-1) earned his second win with a five-inning start, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four. Marist starter Evan Davis (0-3) lasted just two full innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.
College of Charleston never trailed after scoring runs in the first and second innings. The Cougars reached the scoreboard in five different innings.
Freshman Nick Pappas hit his first career home run in the fifth inning, while Brandon Murray hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth inning. Murray finished with three RBIs on two hits and two walks.
Carl Wise had another big game for the Cougars, tallying three hits with two RBIs, including a triple. Both of his RBIs came with two outs as 10 of his team-leading 14 RBIs have come with two outs.
Blake Butler and Ben Boykin continued their hot hitting as each recorded two hits at the top of the order. Boykin has tallied a hit in every game played this season, while Butler has reached base safely in every game.
Nick McQuail led Marist with two RBIs, while Zach Passerelle tallied a double.
College of Charleston will go for its second straight weekend sweep with a 1 p.m. game against Marist tomorrow.
