SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The 2014 Kiss A Pig Campaign kicked off in downtown Savannah Saturday afternoon. City Market hosted the event, drawing a large crowd of pink clad campaigners as well as the campaign's mascot, Remy.

Kiss A Pig is the annual fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. The reason for Remy and the pig themed event? Pigs were the original source of insulin used to treat diabetes. The event was held to launch an intense focus on diabetes from the community as well as raising money to help find a cure for diabetes.

Annie Bolyea, the 2014 Kiss A Pig Chair said, "The Kiss A Pig campaign started 22 years ago and it is Savannah's largest fundraiser. It's about 3 months long and with all the contestants and all the groups participating there are probably going to be over 45 to 50 events in addition to having New River Auto Mall who's coming in and bringing all their cars to every event. So, we're excited to have them this year."

The top fundraiser will get to kiss Remy on May 10th. If you want to follow the campaign, you can find them on Facebook at "Insta Ham".
