WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department believe alcohol could have been a factor in an accident early Saturday morning at 18th and Castle Streets.

According to officials, the truck was discovered around 1:15 a.m. and one person was trapped inside.

Despite the major damage to the truck, authorities said the person inside was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.

According to police, damage from the accident started on Plaza Drive where it appears the truck ran off the road and hit a tree.

Officials say the truck kept moving, hitting a curb and losing a tire at 18th and Chestnut Streets. They believe the truck kept going, turning onto Castle Street before finally coming to a stop.

No one else was injured in this crash.

An investigation is underway and charges are pending.
