Iberville bridge causing inconvenience to nearby residents

PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -

A lot of residents are being inconvenienced by the Iberville bridge on Hwy 77 as it remains closed after an accident that happened Friday night in Plaquemine, La.

According to Sheriff Brett Stassi of Iberville Parish, the bridge going across the intracoastal canal was hit by a barge Friday evening at around 9 p.m. Stassi now tells 9News that the bridge could be out for some time.

Motorists have been informed that they can use I-10 as an alternate route. But there is no estimated time as to when the bridge will be back up and running.

Coming up tonight, we will take a look at the damage done to the bridge and talk more to Sheriff Stassi about the problems it is causing.
