COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A 222-mile walk and fundraiser known as "the Warrior's Walk" will start this Tuesday in Columbus.

Mattress Firm, located on Veterans Parkway, supported the walk by making posters on Saturday and Sunday to encourage the walkers.

Josh Hargis is a wounded veteran who lost both of his legs during his operation in southern Afghanistan last year. Hargis's brother-in-law decided to start this walk, and he hopes to collect donations to help Hargis and to encourage other wounded warriors.

Hargis, who was wounded by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Afghanistan on Oct. 6, 2013, made national headlines with his salute from the hospital bed during his Purple Heart ceremony.

Jonathan Courington, the manager of Columbus Mattress Firm, says his employees will join the walk as well.

"We first met Josh in San Antonio, TX [when] we delivered to him and his wife Taylor," Courington said. "They were very nice to us and they told us about this event and we wanted to get more involved so when we found out it was coming from Columbus we jumped on it to help out."

The walk starts on Victory Drive at the Econo Lodge at 9:30 a.m. on March 4 and ends at the Infantry Museum at Fort Benning.

Donations will be collected that Tuesday morning as well.
