BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A motion to change venue has been denied in the murder trial of a grandmother accused of running her granddaughter to death.

Circuit Judge William B. Ogletree denied the motion on Wednesday in the Joyce Garrard case.

Garrard is accused of forcing her 9-year-old granddaughter, Savannah Hardin, to run for three hours around her house as punishment for lying about eating a candy bar on Feb. 17, 2012. The little girl died three days later at a hospital.

The next hearing for Garrard will be on April 4. Her trial date is set for June 23.
