ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A high speed chase ended in a serious crash Thursday afternoon in Downtown Albertville.

In all, five vehicles were involved and five people were taken to the hospital. Three face serious injuries; one of those is life-threatening.

Five vehicles sat after a Mitsubishi Eclipse finally came to rest in Downtown Albertville. Police said they attempted to make a traffic stop on the Eclipse on Highway 431, but the vehicle led them on a high-speed chase for two miles. The chase ended in a path of destruction along a city block.

The Eclipse lost much of its passenger-side body panel after the initial impact, before rolling a half-block on three wheels. It happened right before the eyes of a woman who was working in her office in front of the initial crash.

"The tire fell off. Parts of the car fell off and it started going, skidding down the highway and went a good distance before it came to rest," said Charlotte Buffington. "I got up and looked out the window to where I could see a little bit better, and I just saw a body roll out of the car."

An infant was in one of the vehicles; fortunately the child was not hurt. Names of those involved have not been released.
