ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County mail carrier is recovering after being bitten by a neighborhood dog.

According to Assistant Police Chief Jamie Smith, police were called to a home on the 900 block of East Alabama Avenue for a report of a dog attack.

Smith said a man was arriving home with his German Shepherd when the dog caught sight of an approaching mailman and broke free of his owner.

The mailman received a bite to his ribs. He refused medical treatment, but Smith said the dog must now be quarantined under state law, and under city ordinance, must be registered as a vicious animal.
